There never has been a sovereign nation state called "Palestine".

Rome conquered the Israelis and renamed the area Palestine after the enemies of the Israelis.

It wasn't sovereign and there were no Arabs there.

It was part of Byzantium after that and then changed hands a lot until it became part of the Ottoman Empire.

The Ottoman Empire has it for a long time - and never called it Palestine and never called anybody loving there Palestinians. Because there was no such people, co such language, no such culture.

When the Ottoman Empire was defeated in WW1, the British Empire got it and called it British Palestine.

At that time, only Jewish residents called themselves Palestinians; Arabs called themselves Arabs - and saw themselves as part of the Ummah, not any other empire.

So why do some Arabs they now refer to themselves as "Palestinian" CHOOSING to call themselves subjects of a colony!?

Christians Worry That Egypt Being Hijacked By Islamists

CAIRO (Reuters) - Last January, Nazih Moussa Gerges locked up his downtown Cairo law office and joined hundreds of thousands of fellow Egyptians to demand that President Hosni Mubarak step down.

The 33-year-old Christian lawyer was back on the streets this month to press military rulers who took over after Mubarak stepped down to end a spate of sectarian attacks that have killed at least 28 people and left many afraid.

Those who camped out in Tahrir Square side by side with Muslims to call for national renewal now fear their struggle is being hijacked by ultra-conservative Salafist Islamists with no one to stop them.

"We did not risk our lives to bring Mubarak down in order to have him replaced by Salafists," Gerges said. "We want an Egypt that will be an example of democracy and freedom for the whole world."

Sectarian tensions are not new to Egypt, where Christians make up around 10 percent of the population of 80 million. But the frequency and intensity of clashes have increased since Mubarak's overthrow.

Many blame a broader weakening of law and order that began as the protests against Mubarak gathered pace and police deserted the streets. Authorities are trying to rebuild security forces to deal with increased lawlessness following mass jail breakouts.

Egypt's military rulers have vowed to punish those behind sectarian clashes, banned demonstrations outside places of worship and promised to give Christians equal rights.

But Christians say no one has been tried yet for the burning of a church in Helwan, south of Cairo, in March or for violence in the Cairo suburb of Imbaba on May 7 that left 15 people dead. At least 13 died in clashes after the Helwan incident.

The army has said 190 people will face trial over the Imbaba clashes, which began when a group of Salafists demanded to look inside a church where they suspected a female convert to Islam was being held against her will.

It is sad to sad to say, but the Christians of Egypt should have known their "revolution" would be taken over by Islamists, because THE ENTIRE COUNTRY IS FILLED WITH ISLAMISTS.

People throw this word Islamist around all the time, but what is Islamism?

In February a poll of Egyptians showed that 92% of Muslims want the law to be that apostates will be stoned to death.

150 years later, Jewish home in Old City becomes Jewish again

A house in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City has been bought by an American and become residential for Jews again.

A house dedication ceremony was held and a mezuzah was affixed on Thursday at Beit Shechter (Schechter house), located in Jerusalem’s Muslim Quarter, 150 years after the home was transferred to an Arab family when Jews had to leave the area. The house thus returned to Jewish hands.

Very likely this was during the time of the Ottoman Empire.

There was also a mezuzah slot found:

Two days earlier, as renovations were taking place inside the house, the original slot for the mezuzah was discovered.

Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, head of the Ateret Cohanim Yeshiva, the main catalyst in the home's recovery as it has been in other parts of the Muslim Quarter, was the one who affixed the mezuzah into place, following which a special dinner was held and dancing took place. The American Friends of Ateret Cohanim annual dinner will take place on June 1st in New York.

NYTimes confirms: Obama negotiating with the Taliban!

— American officials have met with a senior aide to the fugitive Taliban leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar, at least three times in recent months in the first direct exploratory peace talks, officials in the region said.

The meetings have been facilitated by Germany and Qatar but American officials have been present at the meetings each time, meeting with Tayeb Agha, who is a close personal assistant to Mullah Omar, the officials said. Officials of the Central Intelligence Agency and the State Department have been involved in the meetings, one official said.

The meetings were first reported by the Washington Post last week and the German magazine Der Spiegel. A senior Afghan official and Western officials working in the region confirmed the reports on condition of anonymity because they were not permitted to talk to the media about the issue.

Initiated well before the killing of Osama bin Laden on May 2, the meetings represent a clear shift in the attitude of the Obama administration toward peace talks with the Taliban first signaled by a speech in February by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Western officials said. In that speech Ms. Clinton said that previous requirements for talks could be considered as “desired outcomes,” opening the way to exploratory meetings without preconditions.

Eight NATO Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan – Eight NATO soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on Thursday, seven of them in a single incident in the southern part of the country that was the deadliest involving hidden explosive devices so far this year, officials said.

The seven soldiers were part of a foot patrol and were killed in two individual improvised explosive device explosions that struck the patrol as part of the same attack, according to Major Tim James, a spokesman for NATO.

...Thursday’s attack was the deadliest involving improvised explosive devices this year, according to statistics compiled by icasualties.org, an independent reporting organization. On May 16th, four American servicemen were killed in an I.E.D. attack in Zabul province, where Afghan forces recently have taken greater responsibility for security.

Thursday was also was the worst loss of life for NATO since April 27, when eight American airmen and a civilian contractor were killed by an attacker in Afghan air force uniform at the Kabul airport. The Taliban quickly claimed responsibility.

On Thursday, May 19, 2011, The Florida Bar signed filed a voluntary and complete dismissal of the grievance complaint brought against Rifqa Bary's attorney, John Stemberger, who is a leading conservative Christian advocate based in Orlando, Florida. In the proposed final Report of the Referee, the judge found no ethical violations and wrote "I recommend the matter be dismissed." The Final Report of the Judge/Referee is subject to approval by the Florida Supreme Court.

Rifqa Bary was the teenage Muslim-to-Christian covert who made international news in 2009 after fleeing her parents and the radical Islamic community in Columbus, Ohio when threatened with an honor / apostate killing for her conversion. Stemberger represented Bary in the Orlando dependency case before the jurisdiction of the case was transferred to Ohio. Rifqa's legal team won her case on August 10, 2010 when they secured her dependency status away from her parents and eventually obtained her immigration standing as a permanent U.S. legal resident with a track to become a citizen in about four years.

The formal filing by The Florida Bar was a "Voluntary Dismissal with Prejudice" which permanently dismisses the entire Complaint and all three of its alleged charges against Stemberger.

Stemberger himself had something to say about how bar associations in the USA are sacrificing themselves to PC-ness:

"Integrated Bar Associations around the country are slowly losing their identities as merely professional associations created to educate and regulate lawyers. Instead, many are becoming increasingly ideological and political. Additionally, many institutions of society, including bar associations, are bending over backwards to accommodate members of Islam as a new protected class. Instead of championing constitutional free speech rights, bar organizations are opting for enforcing political correctness."

This is another reason why the Republicans have got to renew the bill they tried out a few years ago to protect against frivolous lawsuits. And this is a very serious case that bar associations around the country are going out of their way to sell out American values for the sake of backwards beliefs. It's another something that needs to be tackled in debate.

Israel's Vice Premier Shalom: Rafah crossing opening is a 'dangerous development'

Vice premier warns al-Qaida may smuggle weapons into Gaza; Vilna'i says opening is problematic, but Egypt did not break agreements; Hamas thanks Egypt, lauds "spirit of revolution."

Vice Premier Silvan Shalom spoke out on Thursday against the opening of the Rafah crossing from Gaza into Egypt, calling for international supervision of the crossing.

"This is a dangerous development that could lead to weapons and al-Qaida smuggling into Gaza," Shalom said.

Homeland Security Minister Matan Vilna'i also warned that the opening of the Rafah crossing will be very problematic for Israel.

However, he added in an interview with Israel Radio, that Egypt did not break any agreements with Israel.

Hamas welcomed Egypt's decision to permanently open the crossing from Gaza into Egypt.

"This decision reflects the spirit of revolution in Egypt and the depth of brotherhood between the Palestinian people and the Egyptian people, which has returned itself to its original role in the Palestinian matter," a statement released by Hamas read.

NASRALLAH OPENLY ENDORSES THE MURDEROUS ASSAD

Hizbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah yesterday pledged support for the Syrian government, saying that an end to the Assad regime would only serve American and Israeli interests.

Speaking on the 11th anniversary of Liberation Day - marking the day Israeli troops withdrew from Lebanon in 2000 - the head of the Lebanese Shiite group also called for the rejection of sanctions against Syria and claimed the regime was committed to reform.

"No one denies that Syria has committed mistakes, but no one can deny the historic achievement of Syria to Lebanon, also Syria's stance on Israel and the Palestinian resistance," he said.

Mr Nasrallah again reiterated his claims that the UN-backed investigation into the assassination of the Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri was politicised. His comments come after claims made earlier this week by the US president, Barack Obama, that the Lebanese Shiite group was responsible for political assassinations and car bombings. Mr Nasrallah dismissed the remarks as "US hostility" towards Hizbollah and said that Mr Obama had not just levelled accusations at the movement, but also passed "judgment about us".

Experts on Hamas believe current tensions stem from the exiled leadership's surprise decision to forge the reconciliation agreement with Fatah without proper consultation with the Gaza leadership.

The unity agreement is seen as the Palestinians' response to the popular uprisings that swept former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak from power in February and have challenged the rule of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Meshaal's host since 2001.

Analysts say Hamas appeared to see reconciliation with Fatah as a way of allowing the group to build ties with Egypt's new rulers, reducing the risk of its reliance on Syria as Assad faced unprecedented mass protests.

Two Democratic political consultants have claimed that The Huffington Post's founders stole their blueprint for the popular news-and-views website.
Peter Daou and James Boyce claim they came up with the site's signature blend of blogs by prominent people, news aggregation, original reporting and online community-building, originally envisioned as a liberal counterpoint to such conservative-tilting sites as the Drudge Report.
In a statement, Huffington Post co-founders Arianna Huffington and Kenneth Lerer called the claims "pure fantasy."
The site has become an online colossus, built on the idea of shared effort. It has made the top 10 current events and global news sites, launched city-specific pages and developed a roster of sections such as food and books. The work of its 70-person paid staff is augmented by content from news outlets and 6,000 bloggers who write for free.
Mr Daou and Mr Boyce claim they repeatedly discussed their plan in detail with Ms Huffington and Mr Lerer in 2004 and responded to a request from them for specifics, believed they were all partners, communicated with at least one potential investor and suggested some of the celebrity contributors who ended up writing for the site.

HMMM: Explosion at Iran refinery during Ahmadinejad visit

An explosion blamed on a gas leak rocked Iran’s largest refinery Tuesday around the time of a visit to the plant by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, with some Iranian media reports saying at least two people were killed.

The blast occurred just before Ahmadinejad was to inaugurate an expansion project at the 400,000 barrel per day refinery in the southwestern city of Abadan, and injured 20 people, the semi-official Fars news agency said.

The explosion was blamed on a “gas leakage,” but no other details were provided. Ahmadinejad himself was not injured.

However, conflicting reports over the toll and timing of the blast surfaced but officials at the plant were not reachable for comment.

UK PARLIAMENT STUDY: FRACKING POSES NO RISK; TIME TO MOVE FORWARD EXTRACTING SHALE GAS

Shale gas drilling in the UK has been given the go-ahead by MPs in a new report looking at the impact it could have on water supplies, energy security and greenhouse gas emissions.

The inquiry found no evidence that the hydraulic fracturing process involved in shale gas extraction – known as ‘fracking’ - poses a direct risk to underground water aquifers provided the drilling well is constructed properly. The committee concluded that, on balance, a moratorium in the UK is not justified or necessary at present.

The MPs, nevertheless, urge the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to monitor drilling activity extremely closely in its early stages in order to assess its impact on air and water quality.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection last week levied the largest fine in state history against an oil or gas company — more than $1 million in penalties against Chesapeake Energy, the second largest natural gas producer in the country, partly because the Department claims Chesapeake contaminated water supplies in Bradford County, Pa., and partly because of an explosion at a Chesapeake well site in Washington County, Pa., in February.

The fine comes amid ongoing controversy about the development of the Marcellus Shale formation that stretches across the western part of the state. One of the largest reservoirs of natural gas in the world, the Marcellus Shale provides Pennsylvania with significant economic benefits, even as it offers the country important energy production possibilities. But to access the natural gas, oil and gas companies have to use a process known as hydraulic fracturing — a process that poses some environmental risk. About that, local opponents say: “Don’t frack with our water!”

Opponents of the mining technique of hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” fear the contamination of water supplies, worried it will forever ruin small communities in the stampede of billion-dollar outsider energy corporations to make a quick buck.

Industry experts say the environmental impact neither has been nor will be as severe as opponents like to claim.

With 91% of municipal votes counted, the centre-right Popular Party (PP) had almost a 10-percentage point lead, the interior ministry said.

Jubilant PP supporters celebrated outside their party headquarters in Madrid as the final votes were being counted.

The party was heading to victory in virtually all 13 regional governments up for grabs, including Castilla-La Mancha where the Socialists have always held power.

In municipal elections, the PP won by about two million votes, compared to its victory margin of 150,000 in 2007.

The Socialist party also lost bastions such as the town halls in Barcelona and Seville.
