BOLTON IS PERFECT; VOINOVICH IS A COWARD

"REUTERS" -

The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee delayed a vote on the nomination of John Bolton as U.N. ambassador after a Republican senator said he was not prepared to vote for him on Tuesday and cast the nomination in doubt. "I've heard enough today that I don't feel comfortable about voting for Mr. Bolton," Ohio Sen. George Voinovich said, stunning fellow Republicans who were set to push the contentious nomination through the committee on a party-line vote. Without Voinovich's support, Bolton's nomination faced being bottled up in the committee on a 9-9 tie vote that would not advance it to the full Senate.
This is a PROFILE IN COWARDICE by Voinovich.

By ANY LOGICAL, DISPPASIONATE MEASURE, Bolton is ABSOLUTELY the right man for the job. And Bolton's nomination PROVES that Bush is serious about fixing the UN. Here's proof:

If you were mayor of NYC and had a real lousy school system for the last decade, and if REALLY wanted to fix it, would you want to appoint someone who'd been a SUPPORTER of that lousy school system for that decade? Or would you appoint somebody who'd been a sharp critic of it for the last decade!?

IF YOU REALLY WANTED TO CHALLENGE THE STATUS QUO, AND IMPROVE THE SCHOOL SYSTEM, THEN YOU'D APPOINT SOMEONE WHO'D BEEN A SHARP CRITIC OF THE SCHOOLS WHEN THEY WERE BAD (and NOT someone who been an enabler of the decline of the school system)!

Bolton has been a sharp critic of the UN; therefore he's the PERFECT MAN to help fix it! (Update:) AND THIS PROVES THAT BUSH IS SERIOUS ABOUT REFORMING THE UN! Bush could have appointed someone who was unqualified and of no-standing in the administration; by apppinting a key advisor who is an outspoken critic of the FAILURES OF THE UN, Bush HAS PROVEN he is SERIOUS about FIXING THE UN. (I HAVE UPDATED THIS IN RED & ITALICS SO THE LEFTIES WHO ARE VISITING HERE FROM "CROOKS AND LIARS" WILL UNDERSTAND IT. THIS APPOINTMENT PROVES BUSH IS SERIOUS ABOUT REFORMING THE UN. Get it!?)

Opposition to Bolton is ONLY driven by 2 things: (1) irrational Bush hatred, and (2) Leftists who OPPOSE REFORM OF THE UN!

Voinovich is CAVING IN to the irrational Bush hatred and to the Leftists who make excuses for the UN and who DO NOT want the STATUS QUO at the UN fixed. We MUST ALL get on our PHONES AND FAXES AND EMAIL and BLAST Voinovich for this act of COWARDICE. Here's how:

(a) email: http://voinovich.senate.gov/contact/
or (b) email here: voinovich@voinovich.senate.gov
or (c) fax: 513 - 684 - 3269

or (d) phone: 513 - 684-3265

[ALSO: you must all keep in mind that the anti-Bolton movement (run out of MOVEON.ORG and ACT) is financed by the same Leftist who is financing their support for they're continued filibuster of Bush's judicial appointments: LEFTIST BILLIONAIRE GEORGE SOROS; (more on him HERE).]

Good for Voinovich. He's intelligent enough to understand that to challenge the status quo, cutting off your own nose to spite your face is a bad idea. The best way to fix schools isn't to appoint someone to the school board who feels like they shouldn't exist in the first place, but rather someone who sees the value in them, has a vision for maximizing their potential, and has the diplomatic skills to convince others of the merit of his plan.

There is a difference between being passionate about wanting to reform something and being passionate about seeing something destroyed. Bolton's presence at the UN (if history is any indication) will likely only continue to illustrate to the rest of the world that the American isn't interested in diplomacy, but rather pushing "with us or against us" ultimatums.

Equivocating "being a critic of the UN" with "wanting to see the UN destroyed" is the ignorance at best and sheer lack of rationality at worst.

Voinovich's actions evidence principle, not cowardice. For a party than claims to be all about values, their supporters seem prefer toeing the line to integrity.

If only a few less yes-men on the Republican side of the aisle.

voinovitch is a strong decent republican--unlike the people in the party that just want power and it doesn't matter the cost. too bad there are not more senators like voinovitch who stand for something other than corruption and ethecial lapses. integrity didn't used to be a dirty word. nation over party was a virtue.

Whoah, seems like we have a troll blitz on this site.

Just for the record: Bolton is a fine candidate with a long and distinguished record in international diplomacy (certainly more distinguished than that of Voinovich, a Dem in all but name). Approve, and quick please.

It's a bit of a stretch to call someone a coward for speaking their mind. If Bolton is perfect, he'll make the cut.

God forbid anyone thinks for himself.

"The passion on the other side on this, I don't think is political," Voinovich said. "I think they raised some legitimate issues. I think we ought to find out what they are, I think we ought to get the information, get a chance to have (the allegations) rebutted."

--------------------

Yeah, what a traitor...he'd like to see issues that caused him concern investigated and responded to rather than just rush to vote according to his side of the aisle.

Those criticizing him should be ashamed of themselves.

So your "proof" are 2 analogies? This is the most absurd reasoning I have ever seen. How about we get all the "facts" and not just your feel good expectations on the man. Why must he be confirmed so quickly? I mean is he gonna reform the U.N next week? Doubts are raised and questions need to be answered. It's called responsibel government. Did you even watch the hearings? I bet not.

Voinovich is a coward because he let Lugar get to the point of a vote instead of being a man and letting him know beforehand he had caved to the the Dem slander.

Can you please give one example of a concrete suggestion that Bolton has made to improve the UN? That would be helpful.

God you fascists are a bunch of chickenshit whiners. Get use to it, your reign of terror is coming to an end.

Voinovich is a man of principal and conscience. You neo-cons believe in a one party government. Voinovich is mearly doing his job as a Republican...Not a drunk with power neo-con!!! I don't even know why they have a vote...George Bush always gets what he wants..Even if he has to steal it!

Bush is only serious about getting F--cked in the ass by his cronnies!

TS...You spoke like a true man of God. You don't have to be Christian to love God...Gods son Jesus said"Father forgive them, for they know not what they do."

Thanks for the sermon Rev. "I'm up in everybody's shit all the time unless they agree with me"

This administration get 99.9% of what they want and you still cry like babies. BTW your proof is bull. The one REAL fact is that Bolton is an abuser who can't even get a positive reference from his job as an civilinan lawyer. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

First off, I didn't come here via Crooks and Liars.

Secondly, screaming in capital letters and exclamation points hardly evidences an "logical, disppasionate (sic)" outlook.

Lastly, you've yet to respond to the inaccuracy of your "school" analogy. I'm all for appointing people to the school board who have ideas for reforms or for making things better. But appointing a person to the school board who is of the opinion that schools should not exist would be ridiculous. The same thing applies here.

Calling Voinovich a coward for understanding that Bolton needs some further scruitiny illustrates that you would rather have your politicians blindly following orders than having integrity and principle.

The crazies of the Republican party are starting to come out. opefully, you drive voters right back into the arms of the Democrats.

Keep on blogging!

i'm a democrat.

voinovich is a coward for caving into the Left's weak "charges" against Bolton. and voinovich didn't even have the courage or the decency top tell lugar BEFORE he did it.

bolton is a a severe critic of the UN. I am too.

do think it's run just fine and is a fucntioning institution?

bush and bolton are unafriad of wackjobs like you and your cohorts on the left who would accept the staus quo.

you and your cohorts on the left ARE THE REAL REACTIONARIES.

that's understandable: change is hard to accept.

bush is the change; bolton is an agent of bush.

bush won.

get over it.

Sorry to burst your bubble there, guy, but the rest of the world isn't exactly just waiting for the United Idiots of America to "fix" the UN. In point of fact, the rest of the world is caring less and less as the days tick by whatever the hell this 3 stooges government wants to "fix." They've reduced you to a collection of aircraft carriers, weapons-laden jets, and 10,000 nukes. Take that out of the equation and you are now nothing more than a second-tier country.

Go run off now to the kool-aid fridge. You know you want to.

Bolton's own words show as much. We're talking about someone who has claimed "There is no such thing as the United Nations", who has repeatedly suggested that foreign law exists only as far as it serves US interests, who has been a staunch unilateralist, and who said that nothing more should be paid to the UN system.

Those are not the words of someone who wants to reform the UN, unless one understands "reform" as turning the UN into an avenue to serve only US interests. And someone who feels that the US has no responsibility to meet its treaty obligations has no place being in a position where he may be negotiating international agreements.

Bolton's nomination is a good illustration of Bush's ineptness when it comes to diplomacy.

Calling Voinovich a coward for his actions is indicative of kind of shallow mudslinging we've come to expect from Republicans when people don't mindlessly toe their line / sign their pledge.

I've used your link to thank the senator for his rare defense of fair play.

No one adores mean nasty bosses, and this guy just reminds you of that a-hole people quit on in one of their first jobs.

He should be managing a seven 11.

To the fascist who said that those on the left are the real reactionaries, I got to say, you really need to spell check your rants before you post in a public forum. It's "unafraid" and "functioning." Oh and by the way, why should anyone get over the theft of the Presidency. What you and your fellow fascists need to get over is the fact that the millions who observed the theft of the Presidency in 2000 will ever accept the human stain as President.

what incredible hubris to hear that bush needs to "fix" the UN.
How so? So that the United Nations becomes a vehicle for the extreme right to globalize its agenda?? To formalize the ascendancy of the bush administration's agenda over any other nation's self-interest??
